The J&K government on September 27 directed schools to organize activities and make school children pledge their support for armed forces in order to mark “the surgical strike day from September 28 to 30. 

As per the order issued by the secretary school education department, the schools were asked to organize several activities in schools and make school children pledge their support for armed forces by writing letter or cards to them, addressed to the nearest Army camp. 

The government also directed the school authorities particularly NCC units to invite war veterans or related personalities and organise a special parade followed by motivational lectures. “The school should arrange blank cards to children for writing or creating messages,” reads the government order. Deputy Director General, NCC and other concerned principals have been directed to organize the special parade and motivational lectures in schools. 

Director school education Kashmir and Jammu region, principal Sainik School Mansbal and Nagrota, deputy commissioner Kendriya Vidyalya, principals and heads of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalya were asked to monitor the school events. 

The secretary school education department has issued the circular in the wake of the directions issued by the ministry of information, Government of India and to organize wide range of activities for the observation of surgical strike day on September 29. "Accordingly, Principal Secretary, Home Department issued directions to ensure celebration of the day by organising activities from September 28 to 30 at various levels across the state," the circular reads. The directors of Jammu and Kashmir regions have been asked to tie up with Police Public school and Army Goodwill schools for observance of similar programmes in their respective schools. 

“All the authorities should send one page report of the activities conducted along with pictures and videos to the office of the secretary education department through the concerned directors of Jammu and Kashmir region,” reads the circular, adding that the activity report should be uploaded on their respective official websites. "Both directors (Kashmir and Jammu divisions) shall consolidate the report and send it to the office of the secretary education by or before October 01," the circular reads.
