IN GOOD HEALTH : Try these homemade honey remedies this winter

As winter sets in Kashmir, people start looking for ways to beat the harshness of the elements. There’s hardly an antidote to the extreme cold and what it brings that is more effective than honey. So, here are some simple remedies that you can make with honey at home this season.

Mix honey with ginger and lemon juice to help counteract nausea.

Take half a teaspoonful of honey, warm it between your hands, spread gently on your face, leave on for 10 minutes. Rinse with warm water and pat dry to fight off acne.

Raw honey promotes restorative sleep. Add a tablespoonful to warm milk and drink before going to sleep.

A spoonful of raw honey mixed with olive oil and a squeeze of lemon can be used as a hydrating lotion.

To treat mild eczema, use a topical mixture of equal parts honey and cinnamon.

Add two teaspoonfuls of honey to carrot juice and have regularly an hour before breakfast. It will help improve your eyesight. It is especially helpful for people who sit before a computer screen for long hours.

Two spoonfuls of honey with as much ginger juice cures cold, cough and congested chest. The concoction helps expectorate mucus, providing relief for common cold, cough and sore throat.

For chronic fever, add a teaspoonful each of holy basil and honey and a quarter spoon of black pepper powder to a cup of hot water and take two-three times a day.

Apply a paste of apple cider vinegar and honey on the affected body part and massage slowly to get rid of arthritis.

A glass of lukewarm water taken with two teaspoonfuls of honey and one teaspoonful of lemon juice in early morning reduces fat and purifies blood.

Fasting on honey and lemon juice helps treat obesity without the loss of energy and appetite.

A moderate amount of ginger tea with honey is a remedy for nausea and vomiting.

A mixture of 2.5 grams of black pepper powder, 5 ml each of honey and ginger juice taken thrice daily helps to relieve the symptoms of asthma.

Mix four tablespoons of honey with a couple of egg whites and a little flour and use it as hand and body lotion or a moisturising face mask. It is quite effective against dry skin.



Do not give honey to infants under 18 months old; don’t mix it with hot and spicy food or alcoholic beverages; don’t heat honey or consumer it warm for this could have toxic effects.
