219 Pandits killed in 25 years: Govt

 The Jammu and Kashmir government has maintained that 219 Kashmir Pandits were killed during the past 25-years of turmoil, while Pandits claim that more than 650 KPs fell to the bullets of assassins since 1989.

The former Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Basharat Bukhari while answering a question in the Legislative Assembly during the autumn session last year said that 219 KPs were killed, while 3445 Pandits are still living in the Valley.

According to him, the next to kin of the killed Pandits had been given ex-gratia to the tune of Rs one lakh each.  “In addition an amount of Rs 39,64, 91 838  had been paid on account of damage to their properties since  the  militancy erupted. 

The former minister said that seventeen temples are still under the occupation of the security forces.
